Home Contents and Liability Insurance Requirement

This is often arranged by the landlord, and can be found in the General Terms and Conditions applicable to your tenancy, or in your tenancy agreement itself. If you would like assistance arranging these insurances, you can request our support here.

Your Options
You are free to choose any Dutch insurance provider, as long as the insurance:
Is issued by a registered Dutch insurer
Includes both home contents and liability coverage
Remains valid throughout your stay
How We Can Help
To simplify the process, we offer to arrange a Dutch home contents and liability insurance on your behalf. We do this exclusively with the following providers, as we have a streamlined process (work-around) in place with them:
If you wish for us to arrange it, simply let us know which insurer you prefer. We will apply for a 12-month policy in your name. A €50 service fee (excluding 21% VAT) will apply, and the full insurance cost (typically €130–€150 incl. VAT) will be added to your upcoming rent invoice. You can request our support here.
⚠️ Please note:
No refunds or partial reimbursements will be made if your stay ends earlier than 12 months.
We will cancel the insurance on your behalf after your check-out.
Once check-out has taken place, we can no longer assist you with any insurance matters, except where the matter directly relates to the tenancy agreement (e.g., final inspection or deposit settlement).
If you wish to file a claim yourself during your tenancy, this is of course possible — but you must contact the insurer directly. We can only provide limited support where the claim involves issues directly covered by the tenancy agreement.
Why It’s Required
Home contents and liability insurance protects you in case of accidental damage to the rental property or to someone else’s belongings. Common examples include:
Spilling wine on the sofa
Breaking a mirror or lamp
Causing burn marks on a surface
Knocking over a television
Dropping someone else’s phone
Such unintentional incidents are generally covered.
Please note: damage resulting from negligence, reckless behaviour, or structural issues is typically not covered.
Why a Dutch Policy Is Mandatory
The insurance must be issued by a Dutch provider to ensure:
Efficient and local claims processing
Coverage tailored to Dutch tenancy and liability laws
Easier resolution of disputes or legal claims
